Four GW Students Win Prestigious Health Policy Scholarships

May 29, 2018

Four students pursuing Master of Public Health degrees at George Washington University recently learned that they will receive $10,000 David A. Winston Health Policy Scholarships. Victoria Aysola and Audrey McIntosh are MPH students in the Milken Institute School of Public Health’s Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM). Shannon Macika is an MPH@GW student, and Hannah Silverman is in the health policy track of the university’s BS/MPH program.

“Students in the Milken Institute School of Public Health have historically been well-represented among the nation’s top health policy MPH scholars who earn Winston Health Policy Scholarships.  Our students have tremendous opportunities by virtue of studying at the only school of public health in the nation’s capital.  All of this year’s scholarship winners are extraordinary,” says HPM Chair Thomas LaVeist.

The Winston Scholarship program recognizes excellence and achievement for students in master’s degree programs in health administration, health policy and public health.  The program seeks to increase the number and quality of individuals trained in healthcare policy at the state and federal level by awarding deserving students with financial support to further their education.  Scholars are selected based on expressed and demonstrated commitment to improving the U.S. health care system, as well as leadership, academic achievement, community involvement and long term career interest in health policy, public health, health administration, and/or health management.

Four GW students also won Winston Scholarships last year, including two MPH Health Policy students, one in the MPH@GW program, and a student in the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration’s Master of Public Policy program.
