Ten HPM students, alumni, staff, faculty and affiliates attended the AcademyHealth annual research meeting for health services and health policy held in New Orleans on June 25-27. Many also gave made presentations or presented posters at the event.
The conference helped showcase the vibrant and diverse research being done in the department. After they returned, many department members also presented their research at a lunch meeting in the department’s conference room.
Those making presentations and giving posters at one or both events, or who had research accepted for the conference, included:
- Senior Research Associate Erin Brantley (presented a poster titled “Up in Smoke? Medicaid Benefits and Cessation”)
- Lead Research Scientist Brian Bruen had a poster accepted on hepatitis C vaccine coverage in Medicaid, but he wasn’t able to make it to the meeting. His poster was shown there, but he didn't actually present it.
- Lead Research Scientist Clese Erikson (discussant on “Issues Influencing Adoption of Interprofessional Team-Based Care” panel)
- Student Researcher and HPM PhD student Xinxin Han (presented posters on work she is conducting with Professor Polly Pittman titled “Nurse-Related Clinical Non-licensed Personnel in U.S. Hospitals and Their Relationship with Nurse Staffing Levels” and “Medicaid Grant Funding Increases Helped Improve Community Health Center Capacity”)
- Alumna Emily Jones, who received her PhD in Health Policy (speaker for session; her presentation was titled “Opting out of Medicaid Expansion: Impact on Encounters with Behavioral Health Specialist Staffing in Health Centers,” a topic related to her PhD research)
- Professor Leighton Ku (co-chaired panel on “Potential Effects of Proposals to Repeal or Replace Obamacare,” spoke on “Impact of ACA Repeal on Jobs” panel)
- Assistant Professor Leah Masselink (spoke on “Issues Influencing Adoption of Interprofessional Team-Based Care” panel)
- Assistant Professor Jeongyoung Park (presented posters titled “How Do Nurse Practitioner-led Patient Centered Medical Homes (PCMHs) Differ from Physician-led PCMHs?” and “State Scope of Practice Autonomy and Malpractice Lawsuits Against Nurse Practitioners”)
- Assistant Professor Wayne Psek (presented a poster titled “What’s it to You? Putting the Learning Healthcare System Model in Context for Researchers and Practitioners”)
- Research Instructor in Nursing Ed Salsberg moderated a session
- Senior Research Associate and HPM PhD student Semret Seyoum (presented a poster titled “Evaluating Patient-Centered Quality and Outcomes Across Models of Cancer Survivorship Care”)
